Ethical offshoring starts here
At Elephant Teams, we believe that building global teams should never come at the cost of human dignity. That’s why we have embedded strong governance, proactive risk management and zero-tolerance practices into our operations to prevent modern slavery in all its forms. This policy outlines our commitment to ethical hiring and supply-chain integrity in line with the Australian Modern Slavery Act 2018.
Why this policy exists
Modern slavery, including forced labour, debt bondage and human trafficking, still affects millions worldwide. With operations in Australia and Sri Lanka, we recognise the socio-economic risks in the Asia-Pacific region and take proactive steps to protect vulnerable individuals. Our policy supports compliance with Australian and international human-rights standards, transparent and ethical conduct, and protection across our operations and supply chains.
Key principles we uphold
We do more than state our values. Our policy is built around clear, enforceable standards that put human rights, accountability and ethical recruitment at the centre of every decision.
Human Rights First
We align with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and are committed to preventing every form of exploitation, including child and forced labour; ensuring fair wages and safe working conditions; never charging recruitment fees; and promoting transparency, equity and accountability at every level.
Due Diligence in Practice
We conduct supply-chain risk assessments using recognised tools such as the Global Slavery Index, consult stakeholders to identify vulnerabilities, and dynamically monitor changing social and economic conditions so our safeguards remain effective.
Supplier and Contractor Vetting
Every partner must comply with our Supplier Code of Conduct and participates in regular audits and risk-based evaluations. Where standards are not met, we require corrective action plans.
Ethical Recruitment and Onboarding
We hire directly wherever possible and strictly vet any intermediaries. We never charge recruitment fees, provide contracts in employees’ native language, offer optional home-living audits to help ensure safe environments, and deliver annual face-to-face training from Australian management.
Monitoring, Reporting & Transparency
We maintain a robust monitoring framework through regular operational audits, secure grievance mechanisms that allow anonymous reporting, and publicly accessible annual Modern Slavery Statements.
Governance Structure
Our compliance leadership ensures accountability at every level: Head of Compliance in Australia, Shehan Wijayasinghe; Senior Compliance Officer in Sri Lanka, Rushdie Faizal; and Compliance Officer in Sri Lanka, Aksha Muthukumar.
Continuous Improvement
Compliance is not a one-off task. We collaborate with NGOs, industry bodies and regulators, use technology to improve transparency, and integrate stakeholder feedback into ongoing policy updates.
We’re Building Teams Without Compromise
We take our ethical responsibility seriously because global growth should never cost someone their freedom. To learn more, download our latest Modern Slavery Statement.
