Hire an offshore software developer

We recruit full-time software developers in Sri Lanka and the Philippines who build and maintain your applications, APIs, integrations and internal tools. They work only on your product, in your repositories and your sprint process, and your code and IP stay yours.

Quick answer

How much does an offshore software developer cost?

A full-time offshore software developer costs a monthly salary plus our fee. Salaries typically run A$1,400–3,200 a month in Sri Lanka and A$1,900–3,800 in the Philippines. Our fee is $5,999 + GST once, or $1,000 a month with no upfront fee. Hiring takes 3–4 weeks. Senior full-stack developers earn the most.

What the role covers

A developer on your team, not a ticket in someone else's queue

A dedicated developer joins your stand-ups, works from your backlog and ships through your code review and deployment process. Your product owner or lead developer sets the priorities and approves what goes live.

Feature development

Build new features from your backlog, with tests, in the languages and frameworks you already use.

APIs and integrations

Connect your systems to Xero, Stripe, CRMs and other third-party APIs, and maintain the integrations you already have.

Bug fixing and maintenance

Work through the bug queue, upgrade dependencies and pay down technical debt between feature work.

Internal tools and automation

Build admin dashboards, reports and scripts that remove manual work from your operations team.

Testing and code review

Write unit and integration tests, review pull requests and keep the build green.

Cloud and deployment

Maintain CI/CD pipelines and cloud environments on AWS or Azure under your access controls.

How we screen

What we test before you see a shortlist

Every candidate has phone and video interviews with our recruiters and a skills assessment set for your role. For a software developer that covers:

  • A practical coding task in your stack, reviewed for structure, tests and readability, not just whether it runs
  • A code review exercise: finding bugs and security issues in a sample pull request
  • A technical interview on past projects, the trade-offs they made and what they would change
  • Written English for tickets, pull request notes and async updates

Software Developer FAQ

Common questions

Two colleagues planning work at a whiteboard
How is a software developer different from a web developer?

A web developer mostly builds and maintains websites on platforms such as WordPress and Shopify. A software developer builds applications: back-end services, APIs, integrations and internal tools, usually in a framework such as .NET, Node.js, Python, Java or Laravel. If your product is software rather than a website, hire a software developer.

Who owns the code?

You do. The developer works in repositories your business owns, under an employment contract that assigns IP to the employer, and we recommend you hold all admin access.

Which languages can you recruit for?

Any common stack. Tell us the languages, frameworks and cloud platform you use, and the practical test is set in that stack.

Can one developer work without a technical lead?

It's risky. A developer needs someone to set priorities and review code. If you don't have a technical lead, hire a senior developer and budget for an outside reviewer for architecture decisions.

How do you protect our systems and data?

Give access through your own accounts with least-privilege permissions, keep secrets in a vault and require pull request reviews. Our IT options add managed devices and security monitoring.

How much does it cost in total?

Add the monthly salary to our fee. Ready for You is $5,999 + GST once, then $0 a month if you employ them or $350 a month if we employ them as Employer of Record. Managed for You is $1,000 a month on a 12-month commitment with no recruitment fee. IT options are extra and quoted with your role.
